The following extract was taken from Desert Scorpions "A history of 459 Squadron RAAF 1942-1945" by Leon Kane-Maguire

Bill Lochhead enrolled at Sydney University in medicine with his friend and fellow Baltimore crew member Tom O'Connell. Following graduation in 1952, he entered general practice and later worked in the hospital service. Bill finally retired after a long medical career in 2003.

Bill returned home and became a GP. He married Margaret Cann on 20 May 1950 in Ryde, New South Wales. They had five children during their marriage, two boys and three girls, and nine grandchildren. He died on 9 December 2006 in Bowral, New South Wales, at the age of 83. Bill didn’t speak much about the war but he never lost his love of aircraft and flying.
