The following communication was received by the Association from Roy Mahoney - QLD

"As I live in Queensland I am unable to attend your Sydney celebrations, but please extend my best wishes to those who march and attend the luncheon.

Over the years we have had an annual Reunion get together and lunch of 454 & 459 aircrew members in May each year, in Brisbane. Usual attendees, all WAGS, as follows:

  • Roy Mahoney 459 and wife Beth,

  • Harold (Blue) Munce 454 and wife Norma,

  • Jim McGrath 454 and wife Merle,

  • Kev O'Brien 454 and wife Margaret,

  • Dot Murray, widow of Chris Murray 454.

After the war I returned to teaching from which I retired in 1982.  I became a licensed Amateur Radio Operator in 1984 with the call sign VK4BAY, and served as Australasian President on The Air Forces Amateur Radio Net (AFARN) from 1990 - 1999.  Currently I run the net on air each Tuesday evening on 3.567MHz starting at 7.30pm.  This is commonly referred to as The Northern Net.  At 8.30 pm, also each Tuesday, the HQ of AFARN run a net on 3.608MHz.  The net is controlled by Geoff VK3GN.  Numbers on net have dwindled dramatically over the years, as you can imagine, but we hang in there and try to keep the dream alive."
