The story below is from the Association's 2000 Bulletin

Flight Sergeant McDonald ED was trained as a fitter IIA in Australia after an early enlistment (1939) and sailed in 1941 with the East Coast contingent of the "Yellow Draft" of 400 Ground Crew reinforcements for the under strength RAF in the Middle East Command.
After their somewhat unexpected arrival and temporary postings to various Egyptian Delta Area based RAF units No. 15137 (or was it 15117 as in ES Johnston's "The RAAF Ground Staff of the Desert Air Force Squadrons") Cpl McDonald Fitter IIA was posted to 459's Maintenance Section with effect from 24.2.42. At that time Squadron Leader Phil Howson was Temporary Commanding Officer of 459 Squadron.
Currently there are no other Personnel Occurrence Records available to the Association about Arthur's service and that of many other ground crew members.
